I
am a professor of multicultural studies at Shoreline Community College. I grew up in a
military family in Western Europe, mostly in Naples, Paris, and Brussels. I came to the
United States permanently when I was 17 years old. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and a
B.A. in French Language and Literature from Seattle University, and a masters degree
in Special Education from the University of Washington. In March 1999, I completed a
Ph.D. in Multicultural Education, also at UW. I have been a library aide on a bookmobile,
a teacher of severely and profoundly disabled adolescents, a teacher of 4th
graders with behavior disorders, a parent educator, a preschool teacher, and a child care
center director. I taught in the Education and Human Services program at Shoreline
Community College for 15 years before being reassigned to Multicultural Studies.
I like teaching better than
anything, but I also enjoy sailing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, designing gardens, reading
science fiction, and playing with my husband George, my son
Lucas, and our dog, Jamaica.
I am on leave from August 15,
2003 until September 16 2005 to sail with my family to Mexico and Central
America.
